Roland Gumpert, the organizer and manager of Gumpert, once held the position of Director of Audi Sport. Under his administration, Audi won what added up to 25 World Rally Championship races and 4 World Rally Championship titles.In 2001, Roland Gumpert proposed another era sports auto, one that might be race-prepared yet likewise road-lawful. After Gumpert came back to Germany from China at the end of 2001, Roland Meyer requested that him help in building a model sports auto. Audi affirmed Gumpert’s inclusion in this venture on the condition that the new games auto might be an arrangement item and not a model.
The organization was established in 2004 under the name GMG Sportwagenmanufaktur Altenburg Gmbh. The specialized rules were characterized and the first outlines of the auto were drawn by Marco Vanetta. Upon Vanetta’s fruition of this process, the initial 1:4 scale model of Gumpert’s auto was transformed in 2002.
Gumpert proceeded with the improvement of the Apollo, alongside the Technical University of Munich and the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences. They have supported with the development work, workstation reproductions, and wind tunnel tests. This innovative work helped structuring the diagram for the initial 1:1 scale model. At long last two model Apollos were developed. The preparation of the Apollo began in October 2005.
On July 27, 2008 an Apollo Sport was emphasized on the UK show Top Gear. Richard Hammond and The Stig drove the Apollo Sport. With a lap time of 1.17.1, the Apollo Sport turned into the new pioneer on the Power Lap Board, 0.2 seconds quicker than the previous lap pioneer, the Ascari A10. The Apollo was speedier than Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Zonda around the Top Gear track. It was later beaten with a period of 01:16.8 by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.
In August 2013, the organization recorded for liquidation and went into liquidation after a nameless patron hauled out of an arrangement that could have spared the organization.
