HMT Limited, formerly known as Hindustan Machine Tools Limited, is an Indian state-owned manufacturing company that produces a range of industrial products including tractors. The company was established in 1953 as a machine tool manufacturing company, but has since diversified into various other industries including watches, printing machinery, metal forming presses, die casting and plastic processing machinery, CNC systems, and bearings.

HMT’s first foray into the tractor industry was in 1971, when it started producing tractors in collaboration with M/s Motokov of Czechoslovakia. In 1974, HMT acquired the entire technology for tractor manufacture from Motokov and began producing tractors under the HMT brand.
