KG Mobility History

SsangYong Motor Company, now known as KG Mobility, is a South Korean automobile manufacturer that specializes in the production of SUVs and pickups. The company was founded in 1954 as Ha Dong-hwan Motor Workshop, and it was later renamed Dong-A Motor in 1977. It wasn’t until 1986 that the company was renamed SsangYong Motor Company after it merged with another Korean automaker, Ha Dong-hwan Motor Co., Ltd.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, SsangYong developed a reputation for producing rugged and capable off-road vehicles, including the popular Musso and Korando models. However, the company struggled financially and was eventually acquired by the Chinese company Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation in 2004.

In 2009, SsangYong filed for bankruptcy protection, but it was eventually purchased by the Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra Limited in 2011. Under Mahindra’s ownership, SsangYong has focused on developing a new range of SUVs and crossovers with a more modern design and advanced technology.

In 2023, SsangYong was rebranded as KG Mobility, and the company plans to focus on developing eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen-powered SUVs.

Despite its turbulent history, SsangYong has remained a popular brand in many markets, especially in Asia and Europe. Its vehicles are known for their ruggedness and reliability, and the company has won several awards for its design and innovation. With its new focus on sustainability and eco-friendliness, KG Mobility is poised to continue its legacy as a leading automaker in the global market.

In summary, SsangYong (now KG Mobility) is a South Korean automobile manufacturer with a history dating back to the 1950s. Despite facing financial struggles and ownership changes, the company has maintained a reputation for producing rugged and capable SUVs and pickups. Under its new name, KG Mobility plans to focus on developing eco-friendly vehicles for the future.
