FAW History

FAW, also known as China FAW Group Corp., Ltd., is one of the leading state-owned automobile manufacturers in China. It was founded in 1953, and since then, it has grown to become one of the “Big Four” state-owned car manufacturers of China, alongside SAIC Motor, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and Changan Automobile.

FAW produces and sells vehicles under its own branding, such as Hongqi and Bestune (Benteng), as well as under foreign-branded joint ventures such as FAW-Toyota and FAW-Volkswagen (Volkswagen, Audi). In addition to cars, FAW also produces commercial vehicles, including trucks.

FAW’s history can be traced back to 1953 when the first vehicle, the Jiefang CA-10 truck, rolled off the production line. This marked the beginning of FAW’s journey to becoming a major player in the Chinese automobile industry.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, FAW focused on developing new technologies and expanding its production capabilities. In 1978, FAW began producing passenger cars, with the introduction of the Hongqi luxury sedan.

In the 1980s, FAW entered into joint ventures with foreign automobile manufacturers, including Volkswagen, Audi, and Toyota. These partnerships helped FAW to gain access to advanced technology and expand its market share.

During the 1990s, FAW continued to expand its production capabilities, with the establishment of new joint ventures and the development of new vehicle models. In 1999, FAW entered into a strategic partnership with DaimlerChrysler, which helped FAW to further enhance its production capabilities and expand its global reach.

In recent years, FAW has focused on innovation and sustainability, with the introduction of new electric and hybrid vehicles. In 2020, FAW launched the Hongqi E-HS9, its first luxury electric SUV, and the Bestune T99 EV, a midsize electric SUV.

FAW produces a wide range of commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, and specialized vehicles for specific industries such as mining and construction.

One of FAW’s most popular truck models is the Jiefang J6, which was first introduced in 2007. The J6 is a heavy-duty truck designed for long-distance transportation and logistics. It has a maximum payload of 60 tons and is equipped with advanced safety features, including an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC).

Another popular FAW truck model is the Jiefang J7, which was introduced in 2017. The J7 is a medium-duty truck designed for urban transportation and logistics. It has a maximum payload of 20 tons and is equipped with a range of advanced features, including a high-tech cabin design and an intelligent driver assistance system.

In conclusion FAW is one of the largest and most established automobile manufacturers in China, with a long history of innovation and partnership with foreign companies. With a focus on sustainability and innovation, FAW is well-positioned to continue growing and expanding its market share in the coming years.
