Peterbilt History

Peterbilt Motors Company is a renowned American truck manufacturer that has been producing commercial vehicles since 1939. The company was founded by T.A. “Al” Peterman, who was a lumber entrepreneur in Oakland, California. Peterman originally purchased the assets of the Fageol Motors Company, which produced trucks, buses, and other heavy-duty vehicles. After acquiring the company, he rebranded it as Peterbilt Motors Company and began focusing solely on the production of heavy-duty trucks.

Throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Peterbilt continued to grow and expand its lineup of trucks. The company’s focus on quality and reliability helped it become one of the most respected names in the industry. In 1958, Peterbilt was acquired by PACCAR, a global leader in the design and manufacture of heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Today, Peterbilt operates as a division of PACCAR, alongside sister company Kenworth Truck Company.

Peterbilt has become known for producing some of the most iconic and durable trucks on the road. The company’s flagship model is the Peterbilt 379, which was in production from 1987 to 2007. The 379 was known for its sleek design, powerful engines, and superior performance. The truck was a favorite among owner-operators and was often customized to reflect the personality of its owner.

In recent years, Peterbilt has continued to innovate and introduce new technology to its lineup of trucks. The company is focused on producing vehicles that are more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. Peterbilt’s latest models feature advanced safety features, such as lane departure warning systems and adaptive cruise control.

Today, Peterbilt trucks are still highly regarded for their durability, performance, and stylish design. The company continues to produce some of the most advanced and reliable trucks on the road, making it a top choice for trucking companies and owner-operators alike.
